These terms cover Peel: the browser extension for Chrome and Microsoft Edge, the app for Mac and Windows, Pip the AI helper in Peel, and this website. Please read them, along with our privacy policy.
Who we are
Peel is made by KanBananza, an independent app maker in the UK. You can contact us at hello@kanbananza.com. When you buy, Lemon Squeezy sells to you as our reseller (see Buying Peel Plus).
What you get
- Peel: your library, every referencing style, quotes, the PDF reader, import and export, the passcode lock and sync. Free for as long as you like.
- Pip, the AI helper: a free week from when you install Peel, with a few tries of each of Pip’s actions, then a few actions each month for free.
- Peel Plus: Pip with a fuller monthly allowance, monthly or for an academic year. A KanBananza key that includes Pip gives Pip in Peel too.
Peel keeps your library on your own computer. It works in current versions of Chrome and Microsoft Edge (version 116 or newer), and in the desktop app. Some features use the internet, and only when you choose them: see the privacy policy.
Buying Peel Plus
- Who you pay: payments are handled by Lemon Squeezy, which sells Peel Plus to you as our reseller (the “merchant of record”). Lemon Squeezy takes the payment, adds any tax, and sends your receipt and licence key by email. Its buyer terms cover the payment. These terms cover Peel itself.
- Prices: shown at checkout, in pounds, with your own currency at checkout. The price you pay is the one shown at checkout.
- Monthly: renews every month at the price shown when you bought it, unless we tell you about a change before your renewal. You can cancel any time: the renewal stops, and you keep Pip until the end of the month you’ve paid for.
- For an academic year: paid once, never renews, and runs to the end of August.
- Cancelling a renewal: use your Lemon Squeezy orders page, or email us.
- One person, their own computers: a licence key is for you, on your own computers. Please don’t share it, sell it or post it online. We may switch off a key that’s being shared.
Your right to cancel, and refunds
Under UK law you can usually cancel a purchase made online within 14 days. For digital content like Peel Plus, that right ends once you start using it, if you agreed at checkout to get it straight away and acknowledged that you’d lose the right to cancel.
We don’t give refunds if you change your mind once you’ve started using what you bought. That’s why there’s a free week: try Pip first, with no payment details.
If Peel Plus doesn’t work as described, tell us. You’re entitled to have it fixed or replaced, or, if that can’t be done, to some or all of your money back. Nothing in these terms takes away your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
Pip, the AI helper
- Pip is AI. When you press one of Pip’s buttons, what that job needs is sent to our AI server, which works out Pip’s answer with an AI model. See the privacy policy for what’s sent and kept.
- Pip can make mistakes. It can get things wrong or miss things out. Check what Pip says against your handbook and the source itself. Fill the gaps uses real catalogues, not AI, and finding sources only shows sources from real catalogues.
- You choose what to keep. You see every change Pip suggests before it’s made, and nothing changes unless you choose it.
- Your own work. Pip helps you read and reference: it doesn’t write your work, and the paraphrase coach gives hints, never a rewrite. Check your school’s, university’s or course’s rules on using AI, and follow them. What Pip did (Settings → Pip) lists each time Pip helped, for an AI declaration.
- Not advice. Pip doesn’t give professional, medical, legal, financial or academic advice.
- What Pip won’t help with: Pip won’t help anyone do, plan or get something harmful, or give how-to details of it, whatever the reason given. Studying these topics is fine. If a request asks for help with something harmful, Pip doesn’t answer and is paused for that licence key, or for that free week: the first pause is 10 minutes, then an hour, a day, 3 days, and 7 days for each one after that. A month with no pauses starts the count again. The rest of Peel keeps working. Pip’s checks are automatic and can sometimes get it wrong, which is why the first pause is only 10 minutes.
- Ending Pip: if Pip keeps being paused, or someone tries to use Pip to cause serious harm, we may end Pip for that licence key. We’ll tell you by email if we can. If you paid for Pip, we’ll refund the part you haven’t used. The rest of Peel keeps working.
- If you’re struggling: if what you send sounds like you might hurt yourself, Pip doesn’t pause. It shows where to find help instead, like Samaritans (call 116 123 in the UK, free, any time). If you’re in danger now, call 999.
- Fair use and limits: Pip has a number of actions a month, shown in Settings → Your plan. Please don’t try to get round Pip’s checks or limits. We may stop Pip for anyone who keeps trying.
- When Pip is unavailable: Pip needs our server and our AI provider, so it can sometimes be busy or down. We’ll do our best to keep it running and to fix problems quickly.
Referencing and the guides
- Check your handbook. Peel’s references and our referencing guides are here to help, but they don’t replace your school’s, university’s or course’s own guide. Styles like Harvard vary between universities. Check your references against your handbook, and ask your tutor or library if you’re not sure. You’re responsible for your own work.
- Style names: APA Style, MLA, The Chicago Manual of Style, MHRA, OSCOLA, IEEE, AMA, Vancouver (Citing Medicine) and Cite Them Right belong to their owners, and universities’ names and guides belong to those universities. Peel isn’t connected with, approved by or endorsed by any of them. We use their names only to say which style a format follows.
- Credits: references are formatted with citeproc-js (© Frank Bennett), used under the Common Public Attribution License 1.0. Its source code is at github.com/Juris-M/citeproc-js, and any terms that differ from that licence are offered by KanBananza alone. Citation styles are from the Citation Style Language project (citationstyles.org), under CC BY-SA 3.0, and each style lists its own authors. Using Peel
- Use Peel lawfully, and don’t try to break, overload or get round its limits.
- Only save and keep PDFs you’re allowed to have, like those from your library or open access copies.
- What you save in Peel is yours. Because it’s kept on your own computer, please keep backups: Settings → Your data → Download backup.
- Peel, its design, Pip and this website belong to us. You may use them as these terms allow, but not copy or resell them.
Our responsibility to you
- If we break these terms or don’t use reasonable care, we’re responsible for loss you suffer that was a foreseeable result. We aren’t responsible for loss that wasn’t foreseeable.
- If Peel damages your device or other digital content because we didn’t use reasonable care and skill, we’ll repair the damage or pay you compensation.
- Peel is for personal use. We aren’t responsible for business losses, like lost profit or lost business opportunities.
- Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn’t let us limit.
Changes
We improve Peel often, and the stores update it for you. We may change these terms too, for example for new features or changes in the law. If a change matters to you, we’ll say so in Peel or by email before it applies. If we make a change that takes away something important you’ve paid for, you can stop using it and ask for a refund for the time left.
The law
These terms are under the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim in your local courts. If you live outside the UK, you keep any rights the law where you live gives you.
